State School Kalolsavam to be under CCTV lens

40-50 cameras will be placed in different venues.

KANNUR: In a first of its kind, the State School Kalolsavam to be held in Kannur from January 16 to 22 will be totally under CCTV surveillance, with 40-50 cameras in different venues and other important locations including the mess hall and traffic junctions in place, said the district police chief. “The main venue will have four to five cameras and the rest will have one or two. The rest of the venues are having one or two cameras each. Traffic junctions and other important locations like mess hall and VIP entrance will have more security arrangements,” said K. Sanjay Kumar Gurudin, who is stepping down from the post, in the major reshuffle.

The police chief assured that all preparations were ready for the Kalolsavam. There are 20 venues for the Kalolsavam, all named after the important rivers in the state. The main venues would be Police Maidan (Nila), Collectorate Maidan (Chandragiri), Town Square (Kabani) and Jawahar Stadium (Pamba).

The DPI will finally decide the contract for the security cameras. For this time, the state has decided to send Vigilance officials also for the festival, which is notorious for malpractices involving influencing the judges.
