Kochi police raid Peace School headqaurter

The raid was following allegations of promoting communal hatred in the syllabus and forced conversion.

KOZHIKODE: The Kochi police on Thursday conducted raids on the headquarters of Peace School International at Moozhikal here on Thursday following allegations of promoting communal hatred in the syllabus and forced conversion. The school also has a branch in Kochi. The documents relating to the management, including the list of the subjects taught and the annual report of the school, were seized.

The police had come to the city to interrogate school managing director M.M. Akbar, but he had reportedly fled to the Gulf following the arrest of three others accused in the case in Kochi. The seized documents include the agreement reach-ed by Peace International School in various places, the papers on the functioning of the school and printing of books.

The three persons who were arrested earlier were in charge of the Mumbai Burooj Realisation publication that published the textbooks. “The school was teaching religious hatred from the lower classes and hence we have booked a case against the management and the principal,” said North ADGP Sudesh Kumar.

Kochi range IG S. Sreejith said that a case was registered against the management under section 153 (A) of IPC for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony.
