Karnataka CM Comments on Minority Support Trigger Political Debate

Belagavi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's remarks during a program have become a focal point for opposition parties, sparking a fresh political debate.

Siddaramaiah attended the convention of Muslim religious heads in Hubballi on December 4, where he addressed the audience.

During the speech, the CM spoke about the financial support his government provided for the minorities in the past and also in the present term.

"You should also get education. Your religious centers should be developed. You are also Indians. The country is as much yours as it is mine. I will take steps to distribute the wealth of the nation to you. I assure you I will not allow injustice to you at any cost," the CM said.

However, these remarks have now triggered controversy, with leaders from the BJP sharply criticizing the Chief Minister's statement. In response, Siddaramaiah provided a clarification on Tuesday, stating, "I have said that including Muslims, all communities are given protection in our government."

Despite the clarification, BJP leaders continued to condemn Siddaramaiah's statement. Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka characterized the statement as part of Siddaramaiah and Congress's appeasement politics.

"During his earlier tenure as the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah had initiated Tipu Jayanti and Shadi Bhagya. People of Karnataka rejected him and voted him out. Now, after returning to power, he has continued his old practices of appeasement of Muslims for election," Ashoka told reporters in Belagavi.

"This habit of Siddaramaiah is not correct. He has taken an oath as the CM under the constitution, and he should treat everybody equally. I condemn the statement which is like neglecting the majority Hindus," he added.

Former Minister CN Ashwath Narayan labeled Congress as the most communal party, accusing them of engaging in appeasement politics for votes and participating in communal politics.

MLC Chalavadi Narayanaswamy questioned Congress party leaders.
"Every government has provided justice to the minorities. Congress wants to appease and mislead them. Has the Congress ever appointed a Muslim individual as the Chief Minister, the party president, or the Deputy CM?" he questioned.
