CM Pinarayi Vijayan meets Archbishop Soosapakiam to allay apprehension
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held discussions with Thiruvananthapuram Archbishop Soosapakiam in the wake of the Church’s apprehension about the rescue operations and apprised him that the government was willing to discuss the steps to be taken to meet natural calamities in future. The visit comes a day after the Chief Minister was heckled by the families of the missing fishermen at Vizhinjam. The Chief Minister promised the Archbishop that steps would be taken to help the families of fishermen killed in the cyclone.
Steps will be taken to provide treatment and assistance to those who are injured in the natural calamities. The search for missing fishermen would continue, Mr Pinaryi pointed out. The Archbishop termed the incident in which the Chief Minister and ministers were blocked when they reached Vizhinjam as unfortunate. “Such incidents should not have happened,” he added. Secretary of the Archbishop Fr. Judit Pious Lawrence was also present at the meeting. Latin Catholic Church had earlier decried the government’s apathy in rescuing fishermen and warned of an agitation if the situation did not improve.
