Chennai: Nearly two lakh candidates from across the country appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2016, a gateway for prestigious business schools, on Sunday.
Students who appeared for the exam found the questions tougher this year compared to the previous test. The entrance test for Indian Institutes of Management contains three sections — verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC), data interpretation and logical reasoning (DILR) and quantitative ability (QA).
Sahithi Yeleswarapu, a student from IIT Madras who took the slot-1 test, said, “I found verbal ability and reading comprehension easy. But other two sections tough. Data interpretation and logical reasoning are tougher than the usual.”
The total duration of the test is 180 minutes. Students have to finish each section in 60 minutes. “The questions are time-consuming. It is not easy to find answers within 60 minutes. But getting the admission to IIMs will be based on relative performance of other students,” she said.
Another candidate R.M. Sadhasivam said, “But I think quantitative ability section will either boost or bring down the score. The other two sections compared to last year more or less the same.”
“The paper was difficult. The verbal ability and reading comprehension appeared to be relatively easy compared to other two sections. Students found DILR section as the more difficult one,” said Mantry Arvindkumar, Centre director, TIME Institute, Chennai.
