Vizianagaram Medicos Adopt Villages for Five Years

Visakhapatnam: Medicos pursuing their MBBS at the Vizianagaram Government Medical College Hospital have adopted Gotlam, Reddypet, Parika Palem and Jiannavalasa village Bondapalli mandal of the district.

The medicos, numbering 149, will provide free treatment in these villages for five years.

Vizianagaram government medical college principal K. Padma Leela said: “We have started adopting villages from this year. Each student will be attached to three families of the village. S/he is expected to establish rapport with the family and ensure their good health. This program will thus help in achieving universal health coverage.”

Many medicos said they are getting a chance to understand the dynamics of a rural set-up. “We are educating ourselves about the ongoing government-sponsored health-related programmes. We will identify diseases within the families and analyse the data we collect. We will try to improve their health and well-being,” said medical student Anita.

The village adoption programme is being taken up in public sector hospitals from 2022. It is being implemented in Vizianagaram for the first time.
