Milky white quartz vein found at Thipparam in Siddipet

When hot aqueous hydro-thermal fluids comprising water and silica flow through rock fractures and solidify, they form into quartz veins

Siddipet: A milky white quartz vein has been discovered in a grained granite rock on a hillock at Thipparam village in Kondapaka mandal of Siddipet district.

Samaleti Mahesh, a member of Kotha Telangana Charithra, who found the vein on the mountain said it is straight like a ribbon and could have formed 270 crore years ago when rocks took shape on the earth.

Geological Survey of India's retired deputy director Chakinam Veeresham explained that when hot aqueous hydro-thermal fluids comprising water and silica flow through rock fractures and solidify, they form into quartz veins.

When fluid pressure builds-up, it can also generate fractures in rock. Once the fluid pressure drops, silicon mixed in water precipitates resulting in formation of quartz veins. Under certain conditions, if any metallic element like gold is available in magma, then it is likely to be deposited in the vein. Such granite rocks cost more in the market.

The quartz vein found in Thipparam village is quite prominent and in an accessible area.

Veeresham said government and local authorities should protect such quartz veins formed in granite rocks for educational and tourism purposes.
