Samastha Kerala Jamiyathul Ulema rallies against Uniform Civil Code

Thangal also condemned the recent blast in the Malappuram Collectorate compound.

MALAPPURAM: A mass rally was organised by the Samastha Kerala Jamiyathul Ulema here on Friday opposing the NDA government’s move to impose Uniform Civil Code in the country. In his inaugural address at the Shariath protection march, the Muslim League supremo Panakkad Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal came down heavily on the attempts by a section of leaders to undermine the Constitutional rights of the minority communities.

“Muslims have the freedom to practice their belief in India. It is clear in our Constitution. This freedom can never be curtailed in the name of a Uniform Civil Code. Communities like Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains and others have their own personal laws like Muslims. The Uniform Civil Code will undermine everyone’s rights. This should be opposed unanimously,” Thangal said while addressing a huge gathering which created traffic snarl in the town for hours.

“The discourses which are doing the rounds nowadays regarding the triple Talaq (divorce) are far from the reality and truth. There is conspiracy behind this campaign by communal forces. Shariath is comprehensive enough to go in tandem with the time and there is no need to change it,” he said. Thangal also condemned the recent blast in the Malappuram Collectorate compound. The march also demanded to bring the perpetrators to justice through unbiased and impartial investigation.
