Hyderabad: Teacher injures girl

Scale thrown at another student hits girl above the eye.

Hyderabad: The police has registered a case against a teacher of St Joseph’s High School in Jawahar Nagar after the parents of 10-year-old Neha Fathima complained that the teacher had beaten their daughter with a ruler and injured her eyebrow.

The teacher also lodged a complaint with the police after she was roughed up by the girl’s parents.

Police said that on Wednesday, the teacher, Ms Sameena, was teaching Class IV students when a boy created some disturbance. To control the boy, the teacher threw a wooden scale at him.

“The scale missed the boy and hit Fathima on the right eyebrow, causing a bleeding injury. We took the girl for medical tests and registered a case against the teacher,” SI P. Anjaiah said.

During the inquiry, the teacher told the police that she did not hit the girl intentionally and that the scale had slipped from her hand while she was teaching.

AP Balala Hakkula Sangham, an NGO, condemned the action of the teacher and blamed the school management for recruiting people who are not qualified and trained to teach.

The teacher, Ms Sameena, also lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that Fathima's parents had roughed her up on the school campus. The police made a general diary entry and started a probe.
