Calicut University to take IT aid for seminars

System to digitise all available data including videos, presentations

KOZHIKODE: The Calicut University will introduce an IT-enabled seminar/workshop system which would help digitise all the available data of a seminar or workshop, including its videos, presentations and those relating to the participants. The system will create portals and anyone can access the details from anywhere in the world. Scholars can do follow-up in their areas of study and get in touch with the institutions and resource persons related to their research.

The system will be implemented for the international Kerala history conference being hosted by the varsity from November 11 to 13. It is developed by the Calicut University Computer Centre (CUCC). “We will create a common portal where the organising committees of the seminars concerned can create a separate channel. We will also integrate an SMS system which will help the participants get in touch with the updates on the seminar,” said CUCC director V.T. Madhu.

“We will also provide the option to generate the certificates of the seminar and the details on the number of seminars a participant has attended,” he added. Dr P. Sivadasan, Calicut University syndicate member and history department head, opined that the system, which is common in western universities, will help the public access the seminars and the topics dealt with. Though some technical difficulties may develop initially, we will present a foolproof system later,” he added.
