Novel traffic awareness drive strikes a chord

The traffic police emphasise that people ‘wait’ to pass through different phases of life, but ignore the ‘wait’ on the roads

Hyderabad: In an effort to prevent accidents, Cyberabad traffic police have started a novel campaign to raise awareness among motorists.

As part of the awareness campaign, the traffic police emphasise that people ‘wait’ to pass through different phases of life, but ignore the ‘wait’ on the roads. Motorists cannot wait 30 seconds while overtaking on the roads, even though it takes 9 months for an embryo to develop in the womb and two years for a child to walk. The traffic police message has already gone viral on all social media platforms and WhatsApp groups.

The traffic police officials claim that as a result of such public awareness campaigns, accidents in Cyberabad have decreased significantly as opposed to the past.

According to traffic officials, 60% of this has been accomplished through awareness, 30% through road engineering improvements, and 10% through enforcement.

According to T. Srinivas Rao, Cyberabad Traffic DCP, making the right decisions to slow down and be patient while driving can save many lives.

“We are educating motorists using the same techniques and have seen positive results. We will continue to spread this message in order to make roads safer and save more lives,” he said. The police used the awareness campaign to encourage people to obey traffic laws, such as wearing seatbelts and helmets.

“Please drive at the proper speed while following traffic rules and wearing a helmet. Maintain vehicle control and arrive at your destination safely. Don’t forget that you, your family members, and your children are waiting for you at home,” the traffic police message reads.

“A few seconds of confusion on the road could result in an accident, requiring you to spend hours, days, weeks, months, and, if necessary, years in the hospital. Think of the dire consequences. Whoever is going ahead, let them go. Though you fall behind, you can go comfortably,” reads the message
