PWF to hold demo in Tiruvarur, DMK to fast on October 7

Mr Vaiko said that the demonstration to be held on behalf of PWF in Tiruvarur on October 7 at 11 am.

Chennai: Four parties led People’s Welfare Front would be holding demonstration in Tiruvarur on October 7 condemning Centre’s stand against formation of Cauvery Management Board as per the SC direction.

“The Central government has committed an unpardonable betrayal on Cauvery issue by spoiling the future of the state,” MDMK general secretary Vaiko said in a statement.

Mr Vaiko said that the demonstration to be held on behalf of PWF in Tiruvarur on October 7 at 11 am. CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan, VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan and CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan would take part in the protest along with Mr Vaiko. Pointing to the Centre’s affidavit refusing to form the CMB and questioning the Apex Court’s intervention into legislative domain, he said that Centre has done unimaginable damage to Tamil Nadu. “Now 16 districts including Chennai did not have drinking water and delta districts deprived of water to carry out agriculture,” he noted.

Coincidentally, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin would lead a day long fast in Thanjavur on October 7 condemning the Centre on Cauvery issue. After the centre refused to form CMB, Supreme Court has ordered formation of a supervisory committee headed by central water commission with representatives from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to visit both the states and submit a report on October 17. The apex court directed the Karnataka to release 2000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu till October 18.
