Nellore: Woman donates hubby's organs
NELLORE: In a bid to honour a decade-old commitment by her husband, a woman agreed to donate his organs voluntarily here on Tuesday, after he was declared brain dead following an accident.
The deceased, Pelleti Subba Reddy, 35, has pledged during his college days to donate his organs after his death. He told this to his wife Sivakumari also after their marriage.
A native of Karedu village in Uppalapadu mandal of Prakasam district, Subba Reddy worked at a brandy shop at Indukurpeta while his wife and two children — a daughter and son aged below 10 years — lived in Karedu.
Subba Reddy has succumbed to a head injury he sustained following a fall from his motorcycle after hitting a fencing stone near Mottalu village in Indukur-peta mandal of SPSR Nellore district on Sunday night.
Doctors at Narayana General Hospital declared him brain dead after carrying out various tests on Sunday night. Though she was in a state of shock having lost her husband, the only breadwinner in the family, Sivakumari offered his organs to the needy, citing his wish.
According to officials of Narayana General Hospit-al, Jeevandaan has allotted his heart for transplantation to a patient at Guntur government General Hospi-tal, his liver was given to Manipal Hospital near Vij-ayawada and one kidney ea-ch was used for patients in Narayana Hospital in Nell-ore and SVIMS in Tirupati.
His eyes were collected by Modern Eye Hospital and lungs were allotted to Chennai-based Fortis Malar Hospital.
Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd played a key role by providing their helicopter to shift the heart to Guntur within the stipulated time-frame following a request made by the state government.
Meanwhile, Sivakumari suspected the role of some of her husband’s colleagues behind the accident. Sivakumar said she had lodged a complaint with Indukurpeta police on Monday. She appealed for help from philanthropists to educate her children.
