Hyderabad: Man fires for fun, nabbed
Hyderabad: A 26-year-old bridegroom who allegedly opened fire in the air for fun during his marriage procession at Jahanuma on August 22 was arrested on Sunday.
Police said the groom, Mosin alias Irfanuddin, used two ‘toy’ weapons given to him by his friend H.M. Ali, a movie producer. Police said that he fired around 12 rounds in the air. The incident came to light when a video of the incident went viral.
Irfanuddin was earlier an accused in a similar case of opening fire in the air. Police seized a toy pistol, a toy revolver and two bullets. Athough the pistols in the video looked real police said they are used only in film shoots.
Mohammed Irfanuddin, son of Afzaluddin alias Afzal Seth, was getting married at the Basera Palace in King Garden, Engine Bowli. Around 10 pm, the wedding procession started from the hall and was proceeding to King Palace at Gudimalkapur with the groom Irfanuddin riding a horse. At around 10.30 pm, when the procession approached Shama theatre, it halted for a while.
Irfanuddin’s friend H.M. Ali had given him two ‘toy’ pistols and encouraged him to fire in the air. Irfanuddin then fired 10 rounds in the air. The shots frightened the horse he was riding. The event was recorded on phones.
As soon as the videos went viral on Sunday, south zone DCP V. Satyanarayana asked Falaknuma ACP M.A. Bari to hold an inquiry. Mr Bari said that there was no firing in the area. But by noon, they arrested Irfanuddin and recovered two toy pistols and bullets. He said the two pistols used for the firing were toy pistols used in films and that there was no need for license to carry them. “He fired two shots at Jahanuma with the pistol and 10 shots at Shama Theatre with the revolver. He admitted Ali had encouraged him to use the weapons. Ali recorded the shooting,” the DCP said.
Police found that Ali made low budget films and used the toy guns for shootings. In 2013, when a person threatened Irfanuddin, Ali had given him the toy pistols and had told him to threaten the person with it and a case was registered. A case under the Arms Act was registered against Irfanuddin, Ali and his assistant Mohammed Shami. “We have sent the toy guns and bullets for analysis," he said.
