Thiruvananthapuram Churches fete Mother Teresa's sainthood

A souvenir was also released at the Mother Teresa Church in the city.

Thiruvananthapuram: Various churches in the district conducted programmes in connection with the canonisation of Mother Teresa on Sunday. The relics of Mother Teresa were installed at Kurishumala, the pilgrim centre under the Neyyatinkara diocese of the Latin Catholic Church. The relics brought in a procession from the Muthiyavila St Albert’s Forane Church were received by Neyyatinkara Bishop Vincent Samuel and Vicar General G Christudas.

They will be installed after a concelebrated pontifical holy mass at Kurishumala. The two churches in the name of the Saint Mother Theresa Church Melariyode and Mother Teresa church Kannammoola also celebrated the canonisation. Fr Philip Thayyil, procurator, Changanasserry of the Syro Malabar Church and Fr Davis Chiramel of the Kidney Foundation of India led the mass at the church. A souvenir was also released at the Mother Teresa Church in the city.

In Melariyode church the day witnessed a holy mass and the first novena of the mother. Pontifical holy mass at the St Joseph’s Cathedral of the Latin Catholic Church was led by Archbishop M Soosapakiam. A Special mention of Mother Teresa was made during the Sunday mass at many other Catholic churches belonging to the Latin, Syro Malabar and Syro Malankara rites in the city.
