35 tanks, 185 mobile tanks to immerse Ganesha idols in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: In an attempt to celebrate and immerse Ganesha idols in a safe manner, the BBMP has made arrangements across the city. Artificial tanks have been formed at 35 lakes, including Ulsoor and Sankey tanks. Those immersing the idols have been urged to queue up at artificial tanks for immersion.
In addition, as many as 185 mobile tanks have been arranged for immersion of small Ganesha idols. They should be handed over to the experts hired by the BBMP for immersion.
Before immersing, the devotees have been requested to segregate flowers and other pooja materials and only the idol should be immersed, said N. Manjunath Prasad, BBMP Commissioner. Bursting crackers and using loudspeakers will not be allowed near the lakes. Fire and emergency force personnel will be posted at the lakes and segregated waste will be collected and sent to waste processing units, he added.
Clay idols catching up among customers
As KSPCB and BBMP continue to spread the word on ban of PoP idol, many buyers made the switch to eco-friendly idols this Ganesha Chaturthi. For the first time the KSPCB has banned PoP idols and many buyers too are considering buying clay idols.
City decks up
In the run up to Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, many Bengalureans thronged markets on Sunday. Vegetable and flower vendors made brisk sales with since Saturday evening. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Gowri festival on Sunday women thronged temples and offered ‘baginas’ to goddesses. It marks the customary Swarna Gowri festival.
