Srisailam at 858ft, AP Genco to start producing power from LBP Canal

ANANTAPUR: With constant inflows and storage in the Srisailam project, the APGenco authorities announced plans on Friday to generate power from the Left Bank Power Canal.

Srisailam dam recorded a level of 858.56ft with a storage of 101.66tmc-ft as against the previous 215.81tmc-ft. About 22,642 cusecs of inflows were recorded from upstream areas of Krishna basin.

Heavy floods continued in upstream areas as the Almatti reservoir was at 121.92tmc-ft as against the gross capacity of 129.72tmc-ft. Almatti witnessed inflows of 87,841 cusecs with 44,231 cusecs of outflows towards connecting reservoirs till Srisailam.

Meanwhile, the Tungabhadra dam has recorded a storage of 84.3tmc-ft of water as against the gross storage capacity of 100.5tmc-ft. Though the TB dam was having a storage of only 4tmc-ft at the initial stage of the Southwest monsoon, heavy floods in the past two weeks raised the dam’s storage position to 84.3tmc-ft.

The TB dam board released 4,493 cusecs of water towards the high level main canal and low level canal towards Anantapur and Kurnool districts. The water eventually reached Penna Ahobilum balancing reservoir.

The Tungabhadra high level main canal’s superintendent engineer Rajasekhar told DC the water was stored at various points mainly at PABR to meet the drinking and irrigation needs following allocations from TB dam based on pro rata basis.

Farmers under the high level main canal have been making preparations for paddy cultivation, hoping that they would get enough water from the TB dam.

Meanwhile, TB Dam authorities were planning to lift all gates on Independence Day, this being a tradition every year. In fact, the dam was filled to the full, last year, and water was also released towards the river.

So far, the TB river downstream of the dam had poor water availability. The river was having little water at the pilgrim centre of Mantralayam in Kurnool district.
