Traffic SHO slaps and abuses motorist

Hyderabad: Kukatpally traffic police inspector N. Bose Kiran on Thursday slapped and abused a two-wheeler rider, Om Prakash Reddy, who was stopped during a routine check at Kaithalapur near KPHB, and found to have pending challans. The incident was caught on a video that was uploaded on social media.

The incident comes a day after the Miyapur traffic inspector repeatedly slapped a drunk driver who tried to escape.

In the purported video, the two-wheeler rider is heard requesting Bose to allow him to clear the challans the next day and excuse him. Reddy can be heard asking the official not to seize his bike.

“He reportedly had pending traffic challans for over 10 years. The officials detained the vehicle and asked him to clear the challans as it could attract imprisonment,” a police official said.

However, Reddy started secretly recording the video and asked the SHO to let him go and that he will pay the challans the next day. The SHO was seen suddenly slapping the man and abusing him, even as he asked, ‘Why are you slapping me, sir?’

Asked about the incident, a higher official from the Cyberabad traffic police said that both the incidents had occurred within 24 hours and reflected badly on police. “We are enquiring into the incidents. Appropriate action will be taken against them,” said the official.
