Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan justifies healthy discussion in democracy'
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan has justified the governor summoning the chief minister and said that such healthy discussions were good in a democracy. "Since the chief minister has no issues in meeting the governor, it need not be blown up into a controversy. It is a matter of relationship between various establishments," the speaker said at a press conference in connection with the Assembly session beginning on Monday.
The 13-day session would mainly deal with legislation. Many important bills and ordinances, including Kerala Medical Education (Regulation and Control of Admission to Medical Educational Institutions) Bill and Kerala Goods and Services Tax Bill, are among those to be considered. Appropriation Bill for supplementary demands for grants would be considered on August 21.
A seminar for MLAs on Goods and Services Tax will be conducted in the Assembly on August 7. The speaker also said that a meeting of all parliamentary party leaders would be convened prior to the session to ensure the smooth conduct of the House. A host of issues, including the arrest of Congress MLA M. Vincent, CPM-BJP violence, governor’s action and the arrest of actor Dileep could lead to noisy scenes in the House.
