Kollam cooperative bank secretary found hanging at office
KOLLAM: Manojkumar, 38, secretary-in-charge of the city cooperative bank run by the CMP in Kollam, was found hanging in the CMP district committee office building at Chinnakkada on Thursday morning. He was the whistle blower in the allegations of pledging fake gold in the bank seven years back, which came to light recently. The bank is functioning on the ground floor of the same building.
The body of Manojkumar of Ambadi, Manayilkulangara was found hanging from the ceiling of the party office on the top floor of the bank building. Manoj is learnt to have visited a nearby temple before he was found dead by 8 a.m. The cooperative bank was allegedly involved in money swindling to the tune of Rs 76 lakh related to pledging fake gold by some of its customers with the support of the bank employees at the time of the former bank secretary.
This was found out by Manoj who reported it to the management. After alleged attempts by the bank management to conceal the crime, an inspection order by the cooperative registrar had resulted in revealing the fraud. A team from the cooperative department was investigating the issue and collecting evidence from the bank in the past two days. Manoj leaves behind his wife Aswathy and daughter Mythili, 4.
