Thiruvananthapuram: The first meeting convened by the advocate-general to resolve the issues between the lawyers and mediapersons in Kochi on Thursday failed to come out with suggestions to end the impasse. The committee, however, decided to include a member of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for further discussions. It is understood that the representatives of lawyers asked the AG to include the INS representative for further discussions.
The next meeting of the committee will be held on August 16. A press release issued by advocate-general C.P. Sudhakara Prasad stated that the meeting resolved to take “effective steps to create a cordial relationship between the media and lawyers.” The meeting entrusted the advocate-general to hold discussions with Acting Chief Justice M. Shantanagoudar Mohan to decide on the safety of reporters inside the High Court.
Representatives of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists, Bar Council of Kerala and the lawyers attended the meeting of the committee, set up by the government after the lawyers and mediapersons clashed near the Kerala High Court and later in Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had urged both parties to settle the issue amicably.
