Engineering student found dead on railway tracks near Kochu Veli
Thumba police registered a case and sent the body to the Medical College mortuary.

Thiruvananthapuram: A first year engineering student committed suicide on Wednesday night allegedly due to the fear of losing a year after failing in the examination. The deceased identified as Akash, 19, son of Vijaya Kumar and Sindhu of Pattanikudi lane, Kuriyathi near Manacaud, had recently failed in some examinations. Akash was a student of Trinity Engineering College affiliated to Kerala Technological University, which had recently shifted to a stricter curriculum regime.
As per the new norms, a student who failed in more than three papers would not be promoted to the second year. He would have to re-appear for the exam with the first year students. Akash who was disappointed by his exam results left home on Wednesday evening. He rode a scooter from his house and took some money from his mother to go out. However, he did not return and the panic- stricken parents registered a missing complaint with Fort police.
The Police party found his scooter at Thampanoor railway station and a man hunt was conducted. Hours later, on Thursday morning, police received news of a youth’s body being found on the tracks near Kochu Veli. Thumba police registered a case and sent the body to the Medical College mortuary. The body was identified by relatives and will be handed over to them after an autopsy.
