Delay in flights hit commuters at Karipur airport
MALAPPURAM: As many as 700 passengers have been stranded at the Calicut International Airport in Karipur as four Dubai-bound flights were delayed for an indefinite period on Thursday. The flights of Air India Express, Spice jet, Indigo and Air India which were slated to departed on 12.15, 12.30, 12.45 and 10.30 am respectively failed to get a time slot to land at the Dubai International Airport where a crash landing of an Emirates flight led to a mass cancellation of international service on Wednesday.
After long hours of wait, the Air India and Air India Express flights were diverted to Sharjah from where the passengers would be taken to Dubai by road, airline sources said. Both the Indigo and Spice jet have been cancelled their service and they will refund the ticket amount to passengers or provide a rebooking for another date. Many passengers have returned home after the airline authorities failed to fetch a time slot for landing in Dubai. The protesting passengers and their relatives even created a ruckus at the airport.
