CPI triggers a vegetable revolution at its headquarters

Party decides to go for organic farming in offices across state in support of LDF policy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: MN Smarakam, the state headquarters of the CPI which normally hosts hectic and brainstorming party meetings, turned into a venue for promoting vegetable cultivation and organic farming on Thursday. In place of diaries and party documents, central secretariat member Pannyan Raveendran, state secretary Kanam Rajendran and Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar were seen holding saplings of vegetables. They led the party workers in planting these saplings on the premises of the office.

MN Smarakam is just the beginning. The party has decided to go for organic vegetable farming in offices across the state to support the LDF government's initiative to popularize and increase vegetable cultivation and organic farming. “The LDF government has undertaken a major task of reviving agricultural environment in the state and attract people towards farming. This is part of the initiative to attain self-sufficiency in vegetable cultivation. Our party is backing all steps being taken by the government to create a positive environment for organic farming,” said Mr Kanam Rajendran.

He said the CPI had decided to take part in various agricultural activities ahead of the Kottayam state conference in different districts. As part of the programme, party activists and leaders had taken a number of initiatives. The party is committed to promoting vegetable cultivation and organic farming in a big way. Mr Kanam Rajendran said organic farming will be carried out in all party offices wherever there is space for farming.
