Collegium recommends chief justices of TS, Kerala as judges of SC

HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court collegium on Wednesday recommended the names of Telangana High Court Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan (from Guwahati) and Kerala High Court Chief Justice S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti (from Andhra Pradesh) as judges of the apex court.

The collegium, comprising Chief Justice of India Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B. R. Gavai and Justice Surya Kant, unanimously resolved to recommend the two names to the President and the Centre.

Chief Justices of High Court with less representation in the apex court are generally recommended by the

collegium after duly verifying all parameters.

Justice Bhuyan was appointed as a judge of the Guwahati High Court on 17 October 2011. He has been Chief Justice of Telangana High

Court from 28 June 2022.

Justice Bhatti was appointed as a judge of the AP High Court on 12 April 2013. He was transferred to the High Court of Kerala in March 2019. He has been its Chief Justice since June 1 this year. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh does not have any representation on the Bench of the Supreme Court since last August.
