Medical service at Vytilla hub soon

NRHM initiative offers free check on sugar and cholesterol levels.

Kochi: Worried whether blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels are within recommended ranges? Soon you can check them out for free while waiting for buses at the Vytilla Mobility Hub. Thanks to the initiative of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to open an Emergency Medical Centre in the hub for which the building works have already been over.

“Besides the routine check-up of the basic health parameters, we’ll also provide treatments such as wound dressing, chest pain due to gas trouble, sprains, strains and fever among others. For this, staff will be deployed during the day-time,” said Soumya Sathyanadh, district coordinator, Urban Health, NRHM. The centre will boost of emergency medical equipment, and the heath check-up services will be free. Currently the NRHM has 75 field staff in the region and they will be deployed at the centre on a rotation basis.

“We also aim to create awareness of health initiatives and various schemes of the government. Further the centre will distribute the necessary application forms and also help eligible commuters avail of the schemes,” the official said. Awareness will also be provided on disease prevention techniques and precautions besides tips for leading a healthy lifestyle through the deployment of specialized personnel. “The centre will be opened to the public in a month. We’ve issued tenders for purchase of the basic equipment. As soon as the machinery is delivered, the centre will be thrown open to the public,” the official said.
