CPM decries RSS violence

The CPM believes the attacks are being carried out to weaken the LDF government.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state leadership on Tuesday accused the RSS for unleashing violence in Kannur despite the initiative taken by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to ensure peace in the troubled district. The party felt that the hacking of Sreejan Babu, 41, a CPM worker at Eranjoli in Thalassery the other day was an indication that RSS was hell bent on creating trouble in the district. More than 25 party workers and sympathisers have been attacked in and around Thalassery by RSS since the Chief Minister convened the peace meeting in Kannur.

“The near fatal attack on the CPM worker exposed the hollowness of RSS’ campaign against politics of violence. The RSS initiative for peace was just a facade to carry out its dangerous agenda,” the state secretariat said. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan alleged that RSS gangs had attacked houses, shops and party offices recently. Even women and children who went to witness a festival at Jaganath Temple at Thalassery were not spared, he said.

“Attempts were even being made to target members of minority community. The Sangh Parivar is unleashing hate campaign across the country to make political and electoral gains. It is trying to create similar problems here,” Kodiyei alleged. The CPM believes the attacks are being carried out to weaken the LDF government. On the one hand the Sangh Parivar has launched a nationwide campaign against CPM accusing it of indulging in murder politics, on the other hand they are resorting to unilateral political killings, he said and called upon people to expose the dangerous designs of the Sangh Parivar. He pointed out that RSS carried out the brutal attack on Sreejan on a day when the district collector had convened a peace meeting in Thalassery.
