Cashew tycoon Rajmohan Pillai remanded for raping maid
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The District and Sessions Court remanded cashew tycoon Rajmohan Pillai, 53, for allegedly raping and impregnating his 22-year-old house maid. The matter came to light when the maid, who hails from Odisha, went to terminate pregnancy at local hospital. Mr Pillai, the brother of late 'biscuit tycoon' Rajan Pillai, had employed the woman at his residence near Women's club, Kowdiar, police said.
As per the complainant, she was sexually abused when no one else was present at the house. The ordeal continued for around six months. When she approached them, the hospital authorities questioned her on what happened. Coincidentally, a doctor, who also hail from Odisha, was present in the hospital and the victim revealed the matter to her. The doctor informed police who took Mr Pillai to custody. Mr Pillai contested that he had also employed male workers from Odisha and alleged that one of them could have sexually abused her.
The workers went absconding but the victim stuck on to her statement. So he was booked under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape. A medical examination was conducted on the victim. A test will now be conducted to identify the parenthood. Police will seek the custody of the businessman for further probe. Billionare Mr Pillai owns Beta group of companies that sells dry fruit and nut brands like Nut King and Ole. He also runs a charity organisation in memory of his brother who passed away in Tihar Jail in 1995.
