Fee hike disappoints engineering colleges in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The revised fee structure for engineering colleges that will be in effect for three years has left a bitter taste in the mouth for managements of 20-odd colleges. Most of them have decided to wage a legal battle and get the desired hike.
A few colleges are requesting that the annual fee be hiked by as much as Rs 2.5 lakh per student citing increased cost and good facilities. The Admission Fee Regulatory Commission (AFRC) rejected their claims.
After a thorough exercise, the fee structure range was fixed from Rs 35,000 to Rs 1.13 lakh depending on the infrastructure and the faculty availability in each college.
Many of the colleges were happy with the Rs 35,000 annual fee, while some colleges were in the Rs 35,000- Rs 40,000 bracket. The next segment is between Rs 41,000 and Rs 49,000.
The problem was with the much sought-after colleges in and around the city. Only a few colleges were given permission to collect fee of over Rs 1 lakh. The maximum fixed was Rs 1.13 lakh.
Nearly 20 colleges, some of which demanded fee of up to Rs 2.5 lakh per annum, were visibly disappointed. Members of the engineering colleges association said that some colleges would be moving a lunch motion in the High Court on Tuesday.
Fee revision was done previously in the undivided Andhra Pradesh state and was valid till last year The AFRC had fixed Rs 35,000 for 258 engineering colleges and around 175 permitted to collect above Rs 35,000.
