Anti-socials under lens in Kasargod
Kasargod: Kasaragod district administration convenes a peace committee meeting before each celebration and appeals for caution as silly squabbles have slipped into communal clashes causing irreparable damages. The district administration has requested Mahal committees, resident associations and clubs to be vigilant against the fun and frolic going overboard as they prepare for Eid celebrations on Wednesday.
“Majority of the people are peace lovers. But minuscule anti-social elements are using the occasion to create tension," said district collector E. Devadasan, who chaired a peace committee meeting on June 30. "We expect the cooperation of resident associations and Ayalkootam groups to identify such anti-social activities which could snowball into tension.”
As a part of the precautionary measures, bike rallies and bursting of high decibel crackers are not allowed. Mahal committees have been requested to announce decisions at every mosque. “The district has such a past that frivolous incidents may slip into communal conflicts. Youth conducting bike rallies on altered motorbikes with the huge sound and merry making, throwing crackers into places of worship of other communities had created problems in the past. So we are taking precautions,” said superintendent of police Thomson Jose.
Kasargod police had arrested a youth for deliberately faking an incident to incite communal passions on Sunday. Asaruddhin was admitted a few days back to a hospital with wounds claiming was attacked by a team led by a history-sheeter affiliated to a Hindu outfit. But police probe found that Asaruddhin and his friend faked the incident to tap communal passion against the history-sheeter. Police arrested him on charges of deliberately creating communal tension.
