Absent Sushma Swaraj advises media: Avoid headline I skipped oath ceremony

Sushma Swaraj congratulated the new cabinet ministers and said she would not be able to attend the oath taking ceremony.

New Delhi: Known for her witty barbs and online presence on social media, Sushma Swaraj had a piece of advice for the media on Tuesday – not to play up her absence at the oath-taking ceremony that took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where 19 new ministers were inducted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet.

“Please avoid headline ‘Sushma skips Oath Ceremony’,” tweeted the External Affairs Minister on her official handle just hours before the event.

Sushma explained she would not be able to attend the ceremony as she was scheduled to hold a meeting with the foreign minister of Hungary. But the minister extended her hearty congratulations to all the leaders who were inducted into the Union Cabinet.

“I congratulate and welcome all my colleagues joining the Council of Ministers. I am unable to attend the swearing in ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan since I have a meeting with Foreign Minister of Hungary,” she tweeted.
