Mahdani return: PDP men storm Indigo counter, turn aggressive

Over 60 workers gathered on the airport premises shouting slogans against the airline and when police tried to remove them, they turned aggressive.

Kochi: The Cochin international airport witnessed tense moments on Monday noon with irate People’s Democratic Party (PDP) workers storming the Indigo airline counter at the airport in protest against the refusal of the airline authorities to let PDP chairman Abdul Nazar Maudany board its aircraft from Bangalore.

Over 60 workers gathered near the Indigo counter on the airport premises shouting slogans against the airline and when police tried to remove them, they turned aggressive and smashed the window panes of the Indigo counter. Police waved lathis to disperse the crowd and the situation was defused after a while.

Later police slapped cases having provisions without bail on 60 identifiable persons and also under aviation laws. Police also said that the protest gatherings are not allowed within 500 metres of the airport premises as per a High Court order also and the PDP protestors had violated this also.
