Valuation of land for National Highway 66 to begin soon

The district administration plans to complete the valuation process by June 20.

Malappuram: Weeks after the successful completion of survey of land for the development of National Highway 66 in the district, the revenue authorities are all set to begin the valuation of the identified land. The district administration has decided to begin the valuation of all kinds of buildings, farming areas, trees and other properties along the 76.5-km NH stretch. The exercise would be done by a joint team consisting of officials from National Highway Authority, Agriculture and Social Forestry departments.

District collector Amit Meena who chaired a review meeting recently in this regard has sought cooperation from the land owners for fair determination of compensation. The district administration plans to complete the valuation process by June 20. The collector said the remaining land survey in some parts of Ponnani and Tirurangadi taluks will be completed by the end of this month. The 3D notification as per the NH Act of 1656 which is the declaration of acquisition in the Kondotty, Ponnani and Tirurangadi taluks is expected to be issued by mid June. The process of determination of compensation would begin after the 3D notification.

The collector said that a hearing will be conducted for the land owners before finalising the compensation package. The deputy collector in charge of the NH land acquisition J.O Arun said that as per the current plan the acquisition would be completed by October. “The works will begin in November. If the government allows changes in the alignment it would not be a constraint for the work as it would take less time to complete the process,” Arun said.
