Halla Bol to be held from May 8

Kozhikode: Nearly 50 students from Lakshadweep will sail to the mainland to participate in the Calicut University Inter Zone Arts Fest to be held from May 8 here at Kozhikode. Students from Lakshadweep are participating in Kalolsavam after a gap of three years.

Including the students from the union territory, over 3,000 students from six zones are competing in 67 items during the five-day fest conducted by the state’s largest university which covers five districts.

The festival is named after noted theatre activist Safdar Hashmi’s last play ‘Halla Bol’. The competitions are being conducted in eight venues arranged at Malabar Christian College and IHRD College of Applied Sciences in the City. The venues are named after prime locations in Kozhikode – Kozhikode Beach, Mananchira, Valiyangadi, Mittayi Theruvu, Kallayi, Kappad, Beypore and Palayam.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Calicut University Union General Secretary Neeraj A.N said that all arrangements had been made for the successful conduct of the fest. “This time we had conducted a separate zonal fest in Lakshadweep, thus the students from the islands are also able to participate. The islanders will begin their journey on Friday noon from there. Apart from Lakshadweep, students from Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur are also participating in the fest,” he added.

The University Union has also set up a website (interzone.cuunionkalolsavam.com) where the live results and points table can be accessed.
