Kozhikode: Transgender\'s killer not caught

Nadakkavu police said the cause of her death could not be ascertained because the post-mortem report was not yet ready.

KOZHIKODE: The police are yet to catch the culprit behind the death of transgender Shalu, whose body was found on the roadside near the KSRTC bus stand on Monday. Nadakkavu police said the cause of her death could not be ascertained because the post-mortem report was not yet ready.

The preliminary results of the post-mortem suggested she was strangled. "We are yet to receive the results of the reports on the internal organs of the deceased that were sent for chemical analysis. One of her friends was taken into custody for questioning and a few others associated with her were also called for interrogation," the police said.

The body of Shalu was spotted by locals beside the UK Sankunni road around 9 a.m. on Monday. A case was registered for unnatural death following a complaint by Sisily George, a transgender activist and the founder of Punarjani Cultural Society in Kozhikode.

The post-mortem report was handed over to the Nadakkavu police on Wednesday and they registered a case under section 174 of Crimnial Procedure Code
