Neet muddle delays Tamil Nadu engineering schedule
Chennai: The prevailing confusion over Neet (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) exam has spilled over to engineering admissions in the state as it delays the finalisation of engineering admissions schedule for the next academic year.
“The online registration for engineering counselling had started on April 15 last year. But, this year the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions committee is yet to announce the dates for online registration,” sources said.
The state’s act exempting the students from Neet is awaiting the President’s assent for two months now. Still, there is no clarity whether the students will get the exemption.
“As per the usual practice, the engineering schedule will be finalised after knowing the schedule of MBBS admissions. The state government is still waiting for the central government’s response on this issue. So, the officials are not able to finalise the schedule for the MBBS admissions,” they added.
Meanwhile, the TNEA officials on Tuesday have announced that the date for the online registration of applications will be announced shortly. They also advised the aspiring students to obtain the necessary certificates like first graduate certificate, a nativity certificate from the competent authorities.
Last year, nearly 2 lakh students have registered their applications online for the BE/ BTech admissions. But the TNEA has received only 1.34 lakh applications from the students. The general counselling was held from June 17 to July 21.
