Anti-liquor panel sees holes in Kerala policy

The government should be ready to conduct discussions with the anti-liquor committee.

Kozhikode: The Anti-liquor Committee of Kerala has criticised government’s attitude against the Supreme Court ban on liquor outlets along the national and state highways. “The government seems to be favouring the liquor business. It will destroy the goodwill for the government,” its spokesperson told reporters here on Tuesday. It suggested rehabilitating workers in the sector as temporary hands at state-owned hotels.

Neera units can also increase government’s revenue and accommodate people who lose jobs from the ban. The withdrawal issues of drinkers can be solved by setting up de-addiction centres at taluk hospitals. The government should be ready to conduct discussions with the anti-liquor committee. Eeyacheri Kunhikrishnan, Khadeeja Nargis, Pappan Kannatty and Eeyacheri Padmini addressed the press conference.
