Kottayam: After day-long discussions held at the Kerala Congress (M) office in Kottayam on Monday the candidates list of the party has been announced by the party chairman KM Mani.
According to sources there have been disputes regarding the KC (M) candidate of Changanacherry constituency till the last moment. However, the party leadership has zeroed in on sitting MLA and senior leader C.F. Thomas at the constituency once again despite opposition from a major section of the party leaders. A sizeable section of the party leaders demanded the candidature of Job Michael, the former youth front (M) leader.
After intense speculations and discussions, Georgekutty Augusthy was declared as the KC (M) candidate at the Poonjar assembly constituency where he will be facing a four cornered fight with KCD) candidate PC Joseph and sitting MLA PC George and the BDJS candidate are contesting.
The name of Georgekutty Augusthy, a charismatic speaker and a former Youth Front (M) leader, was also supported by the Church. The name of Youth Front (M) district president Saji Manjakadambil which was considered at the primary phase of the seat discussions for the Poonjar constituency was sidelined after the final round discussions.
