GHMC removes encroachment at Himmatpura

About 165 properties on the stretch were fully or partially razed to widen the Shalibanda-Chandulal Baradari stretch to 80 feet

HYDERABAD: GHMC officials removed an encroachment at Himmatpura following the intervention of Charminar MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan. The civic body had acquired the land for widening of toad on the Shalibanda-Chandulal Baradari stretch. However, some landowners tried to grab the acquired land even after receiving the compensation amount.

About 165 properties on the stretch were fully or partially razed to widen the stretch to 80 feet. The demolition had started in 2018 and almost all properties that were affected had been acquired except for two or three. However, some owners were trying to grab 10-20 feet of the land that was handed over by installing kiosks and sheets.

Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Shalibanda corporator Mustafa Ali Muzaffar inspected the stretch along with GHMC officials and removed the encroachments. He said that as part of Phase I of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), the road was widened and compensation was awarded as per the prevailing market rates. It is not fair to encroach after receiving compensation.

Meanwhile, the MLA instructed officials to start laying CC road to check further encroachments.
