Hyderabad: Divorced' girl had refused to take khula

Hyderabad: The girl who was recently “divorced” by way of a display image on WhatsApp is in a state of trauma.

Speaking to this correspondent, the girl said, “My husband tried to convince me to take khula a few days ago. When I refused and demanded the reason, he said that I was unable to conceive.”

“When we went for tests it was proved that he had some problem. When I discussed this issue with him he was angered and told me that he would leave me. He started showing pictures of other girls and threatened that he would marry one of them,” she said. “I kept quiet, keeping my family’s reputation in mind. When I saw the WhatsApp display, I informed my family and they lodged a complaint with the Moghulpura police,” she said.

Talaq is divorce initiated by a Muslim male; when a woman takes the initiative it is khula.

She said that she and her co-sister — the wife of the victim’s ex-husband’s brother — had been living in the cellar of their in-laws’ house. “Before their arrest on Friday, they never paid heed to our woes. My co-sister’s children have been weeping for four days, but they didn’t bother looking at us,” she said.

She said, “Akhil always used to threaten me that he has got multiple passports and can use any of them to escape from India. He is successful in doing so for now, but we want him arrested.”

The co-sister, who was divorced six months ago, said, “Every day, my ex-husband Fayazuddin used to ask me about the family and our children. One fine day, he just said talaq because my father-in-law gave him wrong information that I had had an abortion. Ge uttered talaq over email and phone though I was pregnant at that time.”

“We want justice. How can a family ruin the lives of two girls? The elder son was married twice and divorced his wives in a similar manner but they never complained fearing for their reputation,” the co-sister said.
