Telangana: Possible cheer for Pharmacy colleges

Technical institutions that are keen on having a shift from one university to another have reason for cheer.

Hyderabad: Technical institutions that are keen on having a shift from one university to another have reason for cheer. The government has given out hints that it might not oppose the move. Besides getting NoC, clearance from higher education department is a must for colleges. Sources in the education department said colleges in districts, especially pharmacy colleges, could be allowed to shift from JNTU to either Kakatiya, Telangana, Palamur of Mahatma Gandhi university.

This move, officials feel, would also boost revenues of the conventional varsities that are facing a funds crunch. Notably, each technical institution (engineering, pharmacy or MBA) will be paying an amount ranging from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 1 crore (depending on students intake) in the form of different fees like common service fee, exam fee, affiliation fee, inspection fee etc to the university it is affiliated to.

Also, JNTU is overburdened with affiliation. It has over 200 engineering, 72 pharmacy and 30 MBA stand-alone colleges. A change of affiliation could also give some respite to other varsities that do not have affiliated colleges in such large numbers.
