Now, tech fest in Jishnu Pranoy's memory

Students of Nehru College, Pampady, to rename the technical festival as COMMOS'.

KOZHIKODE: Students of Nehru College Pampady have come up with an idea to conduct tech fest in memory of Jishnu Pranoy, the first year student who committed suicide allegedly due to the harassment of college authorities. Students had renamed its technical fest to ‘COMMOS’ in memory of Jishnu. COMMOS was the name identified by Jishnu for his dream startup company after completing BTech. “From this year, the tech fest would be conducted as COMMOS commemorating Jishnu.

“COMMOS will replace ‘Insight’ the annual fest organised by the college management using the money collected from students,” said Athul Jose T, a pharmacy student. He said no money of the management should be accepted for the purpose but mobilised through collections from students and the alumni. “We have not sought the permission of the college to rename the fest nor seeking their nod. “The tech fest, comprising of a short film exhibition also will be organised in February end,” he added.

Students also want the new library block or auditorium named after Jishnu. Another batchmate of Jishnu, who requested anonymity, said all the 3,000 students of the college would back COMMOS. “Jishnu was that bright student who presented a ‘pre-paid electric meter’ at state-level science fest during his higher secondary school days. No one would believe that he cheated in exams.”
