Kozhikode Medical College to celebrate diamond jubilee with 60 new projects
KOZHIKODE: The Government Medical College Hospital here will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a number of unique projects. The medical college, the second one in the state which was set up in 1957, will kickstart the celebrations in May by launching 60 patient-friendly schemes. They include a music system in all the wards of the hospital, ensuring beds to all the patients, waste disposal, drinking water vending machines, foldable cots to bystanders and supply of wheel-chairs.
The schemes will be launched this month and completed by the 61st anniversary celebrations. MCH principal Dr V.P. Sasidharan said that the music system would help the patients and their bystanders in mental relaxation. “Not a single patient will be left to sleep on the floor due to lack of beds,” he said. More beds will be provided in the wards where there is overcrowding now.
There are close to 100 wards in the medical college hospital, institute of maternity and child health (IMCH), superspecialty hospital and chest hospital, he added. According to the officials of hospital development committee, the MCH will provide better service to nearly 24 lakh people yearly with the new facilities. Health Minister K.K. Shylaja will head the future developments of the hospital.
