Kottayam police recover youth's body at Vagamon

The fire force and the police personnel conducted the search on Saturday after reaching the ravine using a rope.

Kottayam: The police and the fire force on Saturday retrieved the body of a youth who went missing at the suicide point at Nallathanny near Vagamon on Friday. The body of T.T. Arun, 22, son of Thankachan of Thekkepurathu at Udayamperooor in Ernakulam district, was recovered from a 1,500-feet deep ravine using a crane after it was found in the search conducted by the police, fire force and the local residents. The police also recovered the parts of a mobile phone, a helmet, and the entry ticket from the place which is a picnic spot run by the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council.

However, the police are yet to confirm the presence of another youth who is suspected to have fallen into the ravine. “We are yet to confirm the presence of the other person since the entry ticket has only one person on it,” Prasad Abraham Varghese, sub-inspector, Mundakkayam, told DC. “The presence of another person has to be confirmed in the further search and investigation.” He said search operations will resume on Sunday morning.

The fire force and the police personnel conducted the search on Saturday after reaching the ravine using a rope. Mr Varghese said that the police are not able to reach conclusion at this point of time regarding whether it is a suicide or death due to accident and it could be revealed only in further course of investigation. According to the news circulated two youths who went to the suicide point at Nallathanny were never seen by anyone after Friday evening. A bike was found at the parking ground of the picnic spot.
