Kerala Law Academy row: CPI in no mood to compromise
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Saturday said he was surprised to realise the Law Academy management’s courage in adopting such a defiant stand towards genuine demands of the students and their agitation. He said he wondered from where the Academy authorities drew the courage. He said the source from where the management was getting the courage required to be probed. “It is important to find out who is behind the management,” he said.
The CPI leader said the agitation which should have been resolved within five days had prolonged because of the management's arrogance. The reasons behind the failure of talks convened by education minister should be looked into. “No one should think that the genuine agitation of students could be suppressed just by raising the charge of vested political interests. The government should take the lead in resolving the issue at the earliest,” he added.
Kanam said the law secretary has been entrusted with the task of finding out whether the government land was being misused by the management. More than what chief minister said about the land, the important thing is what action the government will take. He said in case if there was no action then the party would take up the matter at that stage.
Meanwhile, CPI central secretariat member Pannyan Raveendran has demanded action against Lakshmi Nair for caste slur against students and harassing girl students. The CPI leader told mediapersons that the allegations raised by the students belonging to the weaker sections and the girls were grave in nature. No body should overlook these allegations and proper probe should be conducted and guilty punished.
