Kerala Law Academy row: C Raveendranath sides with management

SFI and education minster were working against the interests of the students.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Action Council of Student organisations and the girls students of the Law Academy said the talks convened by education minister C. Raveendranath were a sham. The leaders of KSU, AISF and ABVP launched a scathing attack on the education minister charging him with siding with the management. “He refused to hear our plea and was repeatedly toeing the management line,” said KSU state president V.S. Joy.

He demanded Lakshmi Nair's arrest under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and confiscation of her passport. AISF state president Subhesh Sudhakaran asked the education minister and the LDF government to make their stand clear on the issue of casteist slur against dalit students of the academy. "We had lot of expectations from this meeting. But the education minister’s stand was disappointing,” he added. ABVP state secretary P. Shyamraj said Raveendranath tried to impose management's decisions on the students during the negotiations.

SFI and education minster were working against the interests of the students. ABVP has decided to picket the college on Monday. The girl students of Academy Arya, Jeslin and Malavika who took part in the discussions accused the minister of taking management's side. Meanwhile, SFI said the decision of the action council to continue the agitation was politically motivated. “There is a deliberate attempt to divert the agitation,” said SFI state secretary M. Vigin.
