JNTUH puts off convocation again

One reason for the delay is the JNTUH does not have a vice chancellor for some time now.

Hyderabad: Convocation, which us-ed to be a yearly affair in the academic calendar of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH), has not been held since 2014. Students are eagerly in the wait after collecting their provisional certificates and consolidated marks memo.

Original degrees from the University are issued only on convocation day. One reason for the delay is the JNTUH does not have a vice chancellor for some time now. Students have no option other than to apply for an original Degree online. A consolidated marks-sheet provided by universities is not accepted when the students apply for jobs on university campus, seek scholarships, look for government jobs or want to go for higher studies abroad. Student say there has been no convocation since 2014. They also have to pay extra fees to get their original degree certificate and the fee varies depending on the year of passing.

Shashidhar Vuppala, who passed out in 2015 from JNTUH, is waiting for his convocation. “It has been three years since the convocation was held. This is affecting students who passed the exams. I suggest the university provides an authenticated document to students who face this problem overseas, stating their course tenure, which would help them.’’ Pranay Mittapelli from JNTUH said, “The main problem is that after completion of our B-Tech we need to apply for Original Degree (OD)certificate. Instantly, after B.Tech, we get our provisional certificate and the consolidated marks memo. But we need to apply for OD, for which we have to pay extra fee.’’
