Hyderabad: Taj Mahal Hotel shut for a year
HYDERABAD: The innumerable pat-rons, who frequent the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel in Secunderabad will miss the tasty but affordable meals and tiffins. The management has decided to close the hotel for expansion and renovation from February 6.
Mr Praveen Rao, director of Taj Mahal-Secunderabad, said the hotel building was in a dilapidated condition and they had decided to demolish it and construct a new one with modern facilities. He said the hotel would retain its economy prices even after it reopens in its new avatar.
“To ensure that our patrons do not miss out on the quality food in this period, the Taj Mahal crew will relocate to a new address in Malakjgiri. That hotel would have two restaurants and banquet facilities for 500 persons.
“We started this hotel in 1947 and the third generation of the management is taking care of it. We have been attending to repairs for the last few years but we have reached a stage where it was not advisable to run it. There was no option before us but to demolish the structure which had weakened, he said.
He said the management would focus to completing the building in 12 to 15 months. It is expected to reopen by Shivaratri or Ugadi next year. The refurbished hotel would be a G+5 structure with two restaurants and banquet facilities and cater to more than 1,000 persons at a time. It would have 30,000 sq.ft parking to accommodate more than 100 cars at a time; the lack of parking space is one of the big complaints now.
