CM Pinarayi Vijayan rules out action against Jacob Thomas

Hinting at the series of vigilance cases against top officials Mr Vijayan said that a section of officials are concerned on the situation.

KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed full faith in vigilance director Jacob Thomas. Answering questions here on Saturday, Mr Vijayan asked, “Can any person sit in the chair of vigilance director without enjoying the faith of government?” He accepted that the report of finance secretary against Mr Thomas is partially true. “Government is seeking legal opinion on whether it can take action in a case against an official based on the report of finance department which was earlier investigated and dismissed by vigilance department due to lack of evidence,” he pointed out.

Indicating that the government may not take action against Mr Thomas, he said, “Vigilance is the highest agency at state-level to probe corruption. Beyond that there are Central agencies,” he pointed out. On the alleged slowdown of government machinery due lack of cooperation from top officials, he said that the government will be convening a meeting of department secretaries soon. “All efforts would be taken to ensure that the government machinery is functioning properly,” he said, adding that earnest officials would be protected while those corrupted will not be protected.

Hinting at the series of vigilance cases against top officials Mr Vijayan said that a section of officials are concerned on the situation. But a case should be approached as mere a case and should be treated accordingly. No official would be persecuted just because there is a case registered against him. Earlier, the IAS officials of the state had some issues. The government intervened and sorted out. Now there is a good administrative atmosphere in the state. There is no IAS-IPS tussle, he pointed out.
