TS HC asks Government to come clear On Fate of Dharani Portal

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday directed the state government and the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) to clarify their stance on continuation of Dharani portal for agricultural land records and transactions, which was introduced by the previous government in 2020.

Justice K. Lakshman gave four weeks to Advocate-General A. Sudarshan Reddy to inform whether the government intended to continue the existing portal or wishes to revamp it.

The judge was dealing with a batch of petitions, alleging that the orders of the High Court to resolve the grievances being faced by landowners were not being complied with.

Justice Lakshman had on April 25, 2023, summoned the then CCLA to the court on pending issues like non-issuance of certified copies of the pahanies to the landowners as there is no provision for issuing such certificates via Dharani portal.

After they came to know that several services were being stopped because there were no provision for inclusion of missing survey numbers, no possibility of changing the extent of land in RSR, non- consideration of online applications seeking correction of data, deletion of patta lands from the prohibited list, the court, headed by Justice Justice Lakshman, gave directions to the government and CCLA to rectify the issues by collecting data from revenue officials at the village, mandal and RDO levels. The judge also directed regular inspection by CCLA and other authorities to know the grievances faced by citizens and to achieve the object of the ROR Act 2020. The court asked the government to issue necessary directions within four weeks from the date of issuing orders.

As their grievances were not being considered even eight months after the court orders, the petitioners again approached the High Court.

The government has to inform its take on the issue by February 2.
